Glossary

The words below are the ones you'll see in Soffi and across these docs. Each links to the page that covers it in full.

A

Admin

An Editor who can also set up Projects and run the Organization. Admins set up and publish Projects, connect GitHub and other integrations, and manage members. See Roles and permissions.

C

Comment

A remark pinned to a place in the running app, with replies and a resolved state. Anyone who can open a Workspace can comment. See Comments.

Contributor

Someone who has done something in a Workspace: edited it, messaged Soffi in it, commented, or shipped it. A Workspace's contributors are listed in its menu. See Working together.

D

Data Twin

Soffi's twin of your app's APIs, auth, and data shapes, filled with realistic data, that stands in for your backend so every screen renders without touching your real services. Each Workspace adds to its own copy of the Project's baseline. See Data Twin.

Deploy

Building a Workspace's code and starting it, which produces a Deployment and its Preview. See Previews and deployments.

Deployment

A Workspace's app running inside Soffi, at one address, in one state such as deploying, deployed or sleeping. Soffi never deploys to your production environment. See Previews and deployments.

Design token

One value from your design system, such as a color, a font size or a spacing step, read from the file in your code that defines it. Changing a token changes everything that uses it. See Design System.

E

Editor

A Reviewer who can also change things: edit with the Style Editor, Soffi and the code, and ship pull requests. See Roles and permissions.

G

Grid

The Workspace layout for editing, with every tool docked around the Preview. See Layouts.

H

History

The record of everything saved in a Workspace, by you, your teammates and Soffi, newest first. It's where you revert or roll back. See History and versions.

I

An invitation for one person, copied as a link instead of emailed, with the role you picked. Like an emailed invitation, it expires after seven days. See Invite your team.

L

Layout

How a Workspace is arranged. Grid is for editing and Review is for feedback, with the Preview and comments only. See Layouts.

M

Member

A person in your Organization, with a Role there. See Invite your team.

Mode

What Soffi is allowed to do in a turn. Build is the default and can edit, Plan proposes changes without editing, and Launch is the mode Soffi uses to get an app running when a Project is set up. See Working with Soffi.

Multiplayer

Several people working in the same Workspace at the same time, seeing each other's cursors and following each other's view. See Working together.

O

Onboarding

Getting your first app from nothing to a working Preview: connect GitHub, pick repositories, tell Soffi about them, and let Soffi build the app. See Set up your organization.

Organization

Your company's space in Soffi, with its own address, members and settings. Everything else lives inside one. See How Soffi works.

Owner

The one person accountable for an Organization, with everything an Admin can do. Ownership is transferred rather than granted. See Roles and permissions.

P

Plan mode

The Mode where Soffi reads your code and proposes how she'd make a change, without editing anything. See Working with Soffi.

Preview

Your running app, shown inside a Workspace, where you click through it, select elements and leave comments. Each Workspace has its own. See Preview.

Project

Your app set up once in Soffi: its repositories, how it runs, its keys and its Data Twin. Every Workspace starts from it. See Projects.

Publish

Opening a Project to your team, so people can start Workspaces from it. Only Admins and the Owner can publish, and a Project can be deployed without being published. See Publish a project.

Pull request

A GitHub pull request. Shipping a Workspace opens one per repository it changed, and the Workspace is archived once all of them merge. A pull request opened outside Soffi can be opened in a Workspace too, and shipping from there pushes to it. See PRs opened outside Soffi and From Workspace to pull request.

R

Repository

One of your GitHub repositories, connected through the Soffi GitHub app. A Project can span several. See GitHub.

Revert

Undoing one Version while keeping everything after it. It adds a new version rather than erasing the old one. See History and versions.

Reviewer

The role that can open a Workspace, use the app and comment, but not change anything. See Roles and permissions.

Role

What a member may do: Reviewer, Editor, Admin or Owner, each including everything the one below it can do. See Roles and permissions.

Rollback

Returning a Workspace to an earlier Version, undoing everything after it in one step. Like a revert, it adds a new version. See History and versions.

S

Soffi

The agent in every Workspace. Soffi makes changes in your code, sets up Projects and answers questions, always under the one name. See Working with Soffi.

Sync status

Where a Workspace stands with updates from its Project and its pull requests, in the header of the right-hand panel. Soffi brings updates in on its own; Sync status shows what's coming in and has Check for updates. See Staying up to date.

T

Theme

A set of design token values your app can render in, such as light and dark. See Design System.

V

Version

A set of edits saved together and treated as one thing in History. A version that touches several repositories ships to a pull request in each. See History and versions.

Video Comment

A Comment recorded as a video of the Preview, with a transcript others can read. See Comments.

W

Watcher

Someone following another person's view in a Workspace. Their view moves with the person they follow, and their own editing pauses until they stop. See Working together.

Workspace

One unit of work on your app, with its own Preview, worked on together and shipped as pull requests. See Workspaces.
